Reflections on difference

I saw this list ( http://m.tickld.com/x/20-weird-things-about-america) of items considered unusual by folks not from the U.S. Interesting to consider what values each embodies.

  1. These are actually comical! Number 8 is hilarious because I secretly love Cheese Whiz. I can, however, relate to a lot of these things especially because they are observations done by someone from the UK and I studied there. The sweet bread thing is so true. When I came back one of the biggest reentry issues I had was with the food. Being in Europe really made me realize how disgusting our Americanized food is and how many things the FDA allows in our food, especially fast food and packaged food, that we are very unaware of and it is absolutely disgusting. When I came back I went paleo for awhile because I was actually repulsed and I would check the labels on everything. This goes hand in hand with portion sizes. These are the two things that I feel lead to the stereotypical 'obese' American. Everyone abroad that I encountered and talked with about American customs had this idea that Americans are just lazy and that's true for some but I feel that we are going 100 miles a minute all of us all the time and these fast food restaurants serving huge portions of disgusting food are our problem and many peoples vices.
