When we think about what is interpersonal communication, it is easy to think of the situation. Simply, it is a communication between small number of people. Because most of us meet and have a conversation with others, we always experience interpersonal communication almost everyday.
Distance is a necessary space for each communicators to contribute to the relationship. This could be a personal space like personal bubble. Whenever I get a chance to have a conversation with others, I naturally step backward because I feel more comfortable when I have a space between me and other people.
Interpersonal responsibility is the one what I was confused about and struggled with understanding the accurate meaning. I assume that it is some kind of respect between me and a person who is in any kind of relationship with me.
When I visit my country to visit my parents, my mom always call me as her baby even though I was 22. I did not like that when I was younger because I did not want her to call me a baby in front of other people. However, I found out that my mom was proud of me, so she wanted to emphasize to others that I am her son. After that, when she says that I am her baby, I try to make others feel that I exist because my mom took care of me.
I felt that this chapter was pretty straight to the point. We all seem to understand what interpersonal communication is and what rules apply. Interpersonal communication is communication between two or three people. I thought that the three things the book touched on were valid. They were interpersonal communication, distance, and interpersonal responsibility. Distance and Interpersoanl responsibility are the foundations to interpersonal communication because its all about the respect of the other and the shared space. I like that you said, "I naturally step backward because I feel more comfortable when I have a space between me and other people." By doing so you make it a comfortable enviornment for yourself, while respecting the other persons boundries.
