Chapter 4

This chapter was all about the idea of common sense, and why it's so common. I always  make comments about whether or someone lacks common sense, but I really never actually sat down and tried to define what common sense really was. As time goes on, new definitions of what common sense is develop which might make it difficult to define it.

Throughout reading the text I understood that common sense is different to everyone. It's really not all that "common." In the same social groups or settings, yes, it is common, however if you're not in the same settings with different people, then it will be defined very differently. A main part of communication ethics is to define the forms of communication in order to make sure we don't offend anyone on accident, and I think that's what common sense kind of is, in a way.

The chapter really made me think twice about all forms of communication really. And about how each of us defines proper forms of communication in different ways. If we don't take a step back to see someone else's perception of communication while we're communicating with them, then there will be many unnecessary confusion.
