Link between moral maturity and playing video games?

I saw these articles and thought that I would share with the class. If you respond to this post it will count toward your 10 response posts....

  1. Interesting articles. As an avid 'gamer' myself, I know a fair amount about violent video games as well as having dedicated well over my fair share of hours to these types of games. I'd like to point out, the website (the escapist, I am very familiar with, and actually watch a significant amount of game reviews from) in which the first of the two articles originated is a site that offers sarcastic and usually very, very critical reviews of games, consoles as well as video game design companies that majority of the time, are not as accurate as I or the mainstream gaming society would prefer them to be. So, there could be a significant bias in that alone, although it is not shocking why a website like this would post this article and continue by completely tearing apart the research. I think Chalk points out very accurate critiques of the research, the sample size is ridiculously small, especially considering the size of the 'gaming community'. Though, as a girl who has done quite a bit of 'gaming', any parent who lets their child game for 3+ hours on a daily basis has issues right then and there. Video games are fun, but are they productive, constructive and mind-enhancing? Absolutely not. Push your kid to go outside, do something athletic, or do their homework before toiling hours away into their console. There is a lot of fun and excitement to be had concerning video games, but they do not teach us/young kids social skills and other valuable lessons that face-to-face interactions do. Everything in moderation.
